Sports Team History

Sports Team History takes a look at the history and the logo history of each and every professional sport team to have ever existed. What path did each team travel to get to the city they currently reside? What events transpired to shape a professional sport team into the entity they currently are? What is the evolution of each team’s logo. What changes has their primary and alternate logos been through? How did any given team earn its nickname, how did it end up in a particular stadium or how did they come about their name and mascot? The answer to all of these questions and many more can be found in the databases of Sports Team History. The timeline of every professional sports team to have ever existed is presented from the creation of the team to its current status and everything that happened in between. Sports Team History specifically covers the history and the sports logo of the teams that make up and have made up the Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association, National Football League or National Hockey League.

MLB Team History

Major League Baseball, MLB is a professional baseball league consisting of teams that play in the American League and National League. Dating to 1901 and 1876 respectively the two leagues merged in 2000 into a single organization led by the Commissioner of Baseball, after 100 years as separate legal entities.

MLB constitutes one of the major professional sports leagues of the United States and Canada. It is composed of 30 teams, 29 in the United States and one in Canada. All teams in MLB play 162 games each season over six months from April through September. Five teams in each league advance to a four-round postseason tournament that culminates in the World Series, a best-of-seven-games championship series between the two league champions that dates to 1903.

The National Basketball Association, NBA is the pre-eminent men’s professional basketball league in North America, and is widely considered to be the premier men’s professional basketball league in the world. It has thirty franchised member clubs 29 in the United States and 1 in Canada, and is an active member of USA Basketball, USAB, which is recognized by FIBA also known as the International Basketball Federation as the national governing body for basketball in the United States.

The league was founded in New York City on June 6, 1946, as the Basketball Association of America, BAA. The league adopted the name National Basketball Association on August 3, 1949, after absorbing the rival National Basketball League, NBL.

NFL Team History

The National Football League is a professional American football league composed of 32 teams divided equally between the National Football Conference and the American Football Conference. The highest level of professional football in the world, the NFL runs a 17 week regular season from the week after Labor Day to the week after Christmas, with each team playing sixteen games and having one bye week. Out of the league’s 32 teams, six, four division winners and two wild-card teams from each conference compete in the NFL playoffs, a single-elimination tournament culminating in the Super Bowl, played between the champions of the NFC and AFC. The champions of the Super Bowl are awarded the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Most games are played on Sunday afternoons; some games are also played on Mondays and Thursdays during the regular season. There are games on Saturdays during the last few weeks of the regular season and the first two playoff weekends.

The National Hockey League is an unincorporated not-for-profit association which operates a major professional ice hockey league of 30 franchised member clubs, of which seven are currently located in Canada and 23 in the United States. Headquartered in New York City, the NHL is widely considered to be the premier professional ice hockey league in the world, and one of the major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada. The Stanley Cup, the oldest professional sports trophy in North America, is awarded annually to the league playoff champion at the end of each season.

Baseball Road Trip

Well growing up in the 70’s and I have always wanting to go on a stadium road trip. Reading an article from the LA Times about a person who had traveled to several cities to see as many baseball games as possible. This was a west coast start in Los Angeles and finishing in St. Louis. They were able to see the Dodgers, Angels, Padres, Giants, A’s, Rangers, Astros, Royals and the Cardinals. I was envious. I was wishing. I was wanting. How could I do this on a shoe string budget. Well it never happened, but I sure live through this article the daily activities of the writer and was captivated.

I doing some other research I have stumbled on a website that can make any person’s dream of a baseball road trip a reality. The site is called Baseball-RoadTrip.com. How cool is that. Continue reading Baseball Road Trip
