The two of the most dominant teams in the NFL during the late 1950s were Baltimore Colts and New York Giants. They both had finished the regular season with the record of 9-3 and had won their respective division to reach the championship game. The game itself was a back-and-forth battle between not only their teams but between two of the NFL’s greatest quarterbacks Johnny Unitas of the Colts and Y.A Tittle of the Giants. The final score was 23-17 in favor of the Colts. The game was widely celebrated for its dramatic finish, as it also showcased some of the greatest NFL’s players and coaches. This game is still celebrated by football fans today and is considered one of the greatest moments in sports history.
I wasn’t even born at that time when they both played in 1958, but I’ve heard so much about it from my father and uncles. They still talk about it like it was yesterday.
It was indeed an incredible game. It went overtime and was decided by a field goal. It was first time the championship went into overtime 🤔
Not to mention it wasn’t just the quarterbacks, but the defenses were incredible too. It was a hard-hitting, physical game that really showcased the toughness of both teams.
Correct me if I’m wrong but it was also the first time a championship had been televised nationally and it really helped with popularizing the NFL.
