Richmond Spiders football team:

• The Spiders finished the regular season with a record of 9-2, including a 6-1 record in the Yankee Conference.
• They earned a berth in the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs, where they defeated Appalachian State in the first round before losing to James Madison in the quarterfinals.
• The team was led by head coach Jim Marshall and standout players such as quarterback Greg Lilly, running back Barry Redden, and linebacker Mike Johnson.
