2000 - The men’s soccer team wins the Atlantic 10 Conference championship

In 2000, the St. Joseph’s Hawks men’s soccer team won the Atlantic 10 Conference championship. It was their second A-10 championship in program history, with the first coming in 1994.

The team finished the regular season with a 10-4-3 record and entered the conference tournament as the #2 seed. In the championship game, played on November 12, 2000, St. Joseph’s faced off against the Rhode Island Rams. The game was played at the University of Massachusetts, which was hosting the tournament. The Hawks won the game by a score of 2-1, with goals from junior forward Kieran Sweeney and senior midfielder David Walls.

With the win, St. Joseph’s earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament. In the first round, they faced off against the Seton Hall Pirates, but were defeated 2-1. Nonetheless, it was a highly successful season for the Hawks men’s soccer program, and the championship win was a major highlight.
