Big South School History

The Big South Conference has a rich history in collegiate sports, with its origins dating back to 1983 when it was founded as the Big South Conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The conference is made up of 11 member institutions, all located in the southeastern United States. Throughout its history, the Big South Conference has produced numerous successful sports teams, making it a highly competitive and respected conference in the NCAA.

One of the most notable aspects of the Big South Conference's sports team history is its dominance in football. The conference has produced many successful football teams, including the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, who won the conference championship six times and made multiple appearances in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoffs. In addition, the Liberty Flames have also been a dominant force in the conference, winning eight conference championships and making multiple appearances in the FCS playoffs. The success of these teams has solidified the Big South Conference's reputation as a powerhouse in college football.

The Winthrop Eagles have been a dominant force in men's basketball, winning 11 conference championships and making multiple appearances in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament. The conference has also produced successful baseball teams, with the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers winning the College World Series in 2016. Additionally, the conference has seen success in men's and women's soccer, with the High Point Panthers and the Radford Highlanders winning multiple conference championships and making appearances in the NCAA Division I Soccer Tournament.
