In 1972, Kent State University joined the Mid-American Conference (MAC), which is a collegiate athletic conference consisting of 12 member schools primarily located in the Midwestern United States. Joining the MAC allowed Kent State’s athletic teams to compete against other schools in the region and increased the visibility of the university’s sports programs.

At the time, the MAC included other schools such as Ohio University, Miami University, Bowling Green State University, and Western Michigan University, among others. Since joining the MAC, Kent State has won numerous conference championships in a variety of sports, including football, basketball, track and field, and wrestling.

Kent State has been an active member of the MAC for over 50 years and continues to be a prominent member of the conference. In recent years, Kent State has seen particular success in football and men’s basketball, with both teams winning conference championships and earning bids to national postseason tournaments.
