Originally known as the Pacific Coast Athletic Association, the conference changed its name to the Big West Conference in 1988 to reflect its growing presence. Today it features nine full-time members and two affiliate members, making it a diverse and highly competitive conference. UC Santa Barbara has also stood out, with Gauchos Basketball making deep NCAA Tournament runs during the 2010s, cementing its place as one of the premier Big West teams.
