Andy Phillip Hall of Name NBA

Andy Phillip was one of the outstanding guards of the early NBA era, renowned for his passing, ball-handling, court vision and leadership. After beginning his professional career with the Chicago Stags, Phillip became a key player for the Fort Wayne Pistons and later the Boston Celtics.

He was selected to the first five NBA All-Star Games and was twice named to the All-NBA Second Team. Phillip became the first player to record 500 assists in a season and led the NBA in assists in 1951 and 1952. Over 11 professional seasons, he played 701 regular-season games and averaged 9.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game.

He reached the NBA Finals in each of his final four seasons and won an NBA championship with the Boston Celtics in 1957. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1961 as a player.
