Bergnard “Bennie” Borgmann was one of the greatest professional basketball scorers of the pre-NBA era and one of the most prolific offensive players of his generation. Beginning his professional career in 1919,Borgmann played for numerous professional teams and became particularly known for his success with the Kingston Colonials, Original Celtics and Fort Wayne Hoosiers.
He led various professional leagues in scoring 15 times over a 12-year span, an extraordinary accomplishment during an era when team scoring was generally very low. Borgmann was regarded as one of the highest-scoring professional players of the 1920s and remained influential in basketball after his playing career. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1961 as a player.
