Best Teams

The best five teams from each league compete in "playoffs" to get to the World Series and compete for the crown. So check out the list of the most successful baseball teams of the 21st century:

  • New York Yankees
  • St. Louis Cardinals
  • Boston Red Socks

Here we will closely examine each of these to find out what makes them great.

New York Yankees

The baseball team from New York has been the most dominant in history. The Yankees are well known for spending fortunes to sign the best players for their line-up. Some of them are the stars like Mark Texiera, Alex Rodriguez, and C.C Sabathia.

But in recent years, New York has developed a system of nurturing its own baseball athletes. One of the best examples is Aaron Judge. He is among the most outstanding rookies ever. Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams, and Robinson Cano are homegrown players who significantly impacted baseball in this century. Another player that must be mentioned is Mariano Rivera. He is considered the best closer of all time and comes from the Yankees' growing system.

The New York Yankees have won 27 World Series, including two in this century. Even though their biggest rivals, the Red Sox, have won more titles since 2000, the Yankees continue with success. The New York team has an exceptional ability to get top players in various ways, which makes them one of the best.

St. Louis Cardinals

The Cardinals are one of the baseball teams with excellent and the most consistent organization since 2000. That is due to having a mix of stars and supporting players. The Cardinals are also known as the Yankees of the National League.

Their player-growing system brought Albert Pujols, who had the best start to his career in baseball history. He brought success to the Cardinals team for 11 years but decided to join the Los Angeles Angels in 2011. Even though the Cardinals reached the World Series in 2013, Pujols has been still missing to spark their lineup. But in 2022, Pujols returned to the Cardinals to finish his career. Another famous athlete that came from their growing farm is Yadier Molina. However, Pujols had an intimidating factor that gave a considerable advantage to the team.

In 2004, the Cardinals won 105 games. That outstanding record is made thanks to the stars such as Albert Pujols, Scott Rolen, and Jim Edmonds. Moreover, they were considered the best trio in baseball for a long time. So they are the most significant contributors to the Cardinal's success from 2004 to 2006.

Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox won the first World Series in 2004 in 86 years. Along with that, they won another two champion titles. One of the greatest comebacks in the history of the baseball playoff was the Red Sox against the Yankees. They managed to win the game after losing 0-3.

The Red Sox are considered among the best baseball teams in the 21st century that play in the most challenging division. They have three division titles, the same as World Series.

Boston had outstanding hitters like Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz. Along with them, Red Sox had some of the most incredible pitchers, Curt Schilling and Pedro Martinez. Boston's success can also be addressed to the supporting role of its team. Players that are not so known, like Jacoby Ellsbury and Kevin Youkilis, were also able to make a significant impact.

Wrap Up

Plenty of baseball teams have a great history of success behind them as they compete in the MLB leagues. However, the most successful teams of the 21st century are mentioned here. That being said, things can always change in a few seasons. These teams have a great organization which is the reason for their success. Moreover, their farm-growing system for new players brought some of the biggest stars to their teams. Baseball athletes like Aaron Judge, Albert Pujols, David Ortiz, and others had the most outstanding plays. They carried their teams to World Series titles.
