In 2017, the Cal State Fullerton baseball team made it to the NCAA tournament for the 26th time in program history. They advanced to the Stanford Regional, where they defeated BYU and Stanford to earn a spot in the Super Regionals. However, they were unable to advance to the College World Series, as they were defeated by Long Beach State in the Super Regionals.

Despite not winning the championship in 2017, the Cal State Fullerton baseball team has a storied history in the sport. They have made it to the College World Series 18 times and have won four championships, in 1979, 1984, 1995, and 2004. The team has produced many talented players over the years, including Justin Turner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Mark Kotsay, who played for multiple MLB teams during his career.
