The Chicago State Cougars women’s basketball team currently competes as an Independent, but will move to the Northeast Conference in 2024. Chicago State began play in 1966, beginning Division I play in 1984. They played in the ECC for the 1993–94 season before playing in the Mid-Continent Conference (now known as the Summit League) in 1994, playing until 2006. They were independent from 2006 to 2009 before joining the Great West Conference. The Cougars won the regular season and conference tournament title in 2011. The conference did not have an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, though they did receive a bid to the WBI.
