1995 - Dave Dickenson – Walter Payton Award Winner

Dave Dickenson is one of the most notable players in the history of the Montana Grizzlies football program. He played quarterback for the team from 1992 to 1995 and led them to an appearance in the NCAA Division I-AA championship game in 1995, where they lost to Marshall.

During his time with the Grizzlies, Dickenson set numerous school and conference records, including the Big Sky Conference record for career passing yards (13,486) and touchdowns (116). He was also a two-time First Team All-American and won the Walter Payton Award, given to the top player in NCAA Division I-AA football, in 1995.

After his college career, Dickenson went on to play professionally in the Canadian Football League (CFL) and is regarded as one of the greatest quarterbacks in the league’s history. He later became a coach, including a stint as the head coach of the CFL’s Calgary Stampeders.
