In 2011, the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles men’s soccer team won their first Atlantic Sun Conference championship. The team, led by head coach Bob Butehorn, finished the regular season with a record of 12-5-2 and advanced to the conference tournament, where they defeated Lipscomb University in the championship game by a score of 2-0. The victory earned the Eagles an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship, where they lost to the University of South Florida in the first round. The championship marked a significant milestone for the men’s soccer program and helped establish it as a competitive force in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
