In 2019, the Jacksonville State Gamecocks women’s soccer team won their fifth Ohio Valley Conference championship. The team finished the regular season with a 9-7-3 overall record and a 7-2-1 record in conference play, which was enough to clinch the regular-season title.
In the conference tournament, the Gamecocks defeated Eastern Kentucky 1-0 in the semifinals before facing off against Southeast Missouri State in the championship game. The championship game was a closely contested match, with neither team able to score during regulation time. However, in the 98th minute of the game, senior forward Maria Brodersen scored the game-winning goal, giving the Gamecocks a 1-0 victory and securing their fifth Ohio Valley Conference championship.
The victory earned the Gamecocks an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship. In the first round of the tournament, the team faced off against the University of South Florida, but unfortunately, they were defeated 3-0, bringing an end to their season. Despite the early exit from the tournament, the Gamecocks’ 2019 season was a successful one, with their fifth Ohio Valley Conference championship adding to the program’s history of success in women’s soccer.
