Kenny Williams was a standout basketball player for the UIC Flames from 2004 to 2008. Williams was a guard who played with great intensity and a relentless work ethic, earning him the nickname “The Junkyard Dog.”
During his four-year career at UIC, Williams set a number of school records, including career steals (239), steals in a season (84), and steals in a game (8). He also ranks in the top 10 in UIC history in career scoring (1,508 points), career three-pointers made (206), and career assists (319).
Williams helped lead the Flames to two NCAA tournament appearances during his career. In 2004, as a freshman, he played a key role in UIC’s upset victory over the University of Illinois in the first round of the tournament. In 2007, Williams was named the Horizon League Tournament MVP as UIC won the conference championship and advanced to the NCAA tournament.
After graduating from UIC in 2008, Williams played professionally overseas before returning to the United States to play in the NBA Development League. He had brief stints with the Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Minnesota Timberwolves, but ultimately played most of his professional career overseas. Williams is remembered as one of the greatest players in UIC basketball history and a fan favorite for his tenacity and grit on the court.
