In 2017: Minnesota United FC plays its inaugural season in MLS, joining the Western Conference along with fellow expansion team Atlanta United FC. The club plays its home games at TCF Bank Stadium, a college football venue shared with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. The club’s first head coach is Adrian Heath, a former Orlando City SC manager. The club’s first designated players are Kevin Molino, a Trinidadian international midfielder who joined from Orlando City SC; Rasmus Schüller, a Finnish international midfielder who joined from BK Häcken; and Vadim Demidov, a Norwegian international defender who joined from SK Brann. The club’s first game is a 5–1 loss to Portland Timbers on March 3, 2017. The club’s first win is a 4–2 victory over Real Salt Lake on April 1, 2017. The club finishes ninth in the Western Conference and misses the playoffs in its first season.
