1960 - The Austin Peay Governors baseball team wins its first OVC championship

In 1960, the Austin Peay Governors baseball team won its first Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) championship. The team was coached by Joe Morgan and finished the season with a record of 16 wins and 7 losses, including an impressive 11-1 conference record.

Led by standout players such as pitcher Jerry Stigall and outfielder Richard “Buster” Fallin, the Governors dominated conference play, outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 116-23 in OVC games.

The team’s championship-clinching win came on May 20, 1960, in a 6-1 victory over Middle Tennessee State Teachers College (now Middle Tennessee State University). The win secured Austin Peay’s first-ever OVC baseball title and earned the team a spot in the NCAA District III Playoffs.
