2017 - The Hornets baseball team wins the Western Athletic Conference championship

Sacramento State Hornets baseball team’s 2017 season:

The Hornets finished the regular season with a record of 32-27 overall and 18-9 in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).
Sacramento State won the WAC regular season title and earned the top seed in the WAC Tournament.
In the WAC Tournament, the Hornets won three straight games to claim the championship, including a 6-4 victory over CSU Bakersfield in the title game.
With the WAC championship, the Hornets earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament for the first time in school history.
In the NCAA Tournament, the Hornets were placed in the Stanford Regional, where they faced the host Stanford Cardinal in their first game. Despite a strong showing, the Hornets lost to Stanford 5-1.
In the second game of the tournament, Sacramento State faced the BYU Cougars in an elimination game. The Hornets won 6-5 in dramatic fashion, scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to come from behind and advance to the regional final.
In the regional final, the Hornets faced Stanford again but fell short, losing 8-1 to end their season.
Several Hornets players received individual honors for their performances during the season, including outfielder Ian Dawkins, who was named the WAC Player of the Year, and pitcher Justin Dillon, who was a first-team All-WAC selection.
