In 2009, the University of Idaho football team won the Humanitarian Bowl, defeating Bowling Green 43-42. This was the first bowl victory for the Vandals since 1998 and their first postseason appearance since joining the FBS in 1996. The game was played at Bronco Stadium in Boise, Idaho, and was a back-and-forth affair that saw both teams trade leads throughout the game. Idaho quarterback Nathan Enderle threw for 240 yards and three touchdowns, while receiver Max Komar had eight catches for 196 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning score with 4:03 left in the fourth quarter. The victory capped off a 8-5 season for the Vandals under head coach Robb Akey.
