Wally Whitehurst in New Orleans Privateers. He was a right-handed pitcher who played for UNO from 1983 to 1985. He was a key member of the 1984 team that reached the College World Series, the first and only Louisiana school to do so. He won 15 games that season and was named the MVP of the AAABA national championship team2. He also pitched for the USA national team that won the bronze medal at the Amateur World Series. He holds the UNO career records for wins (37) and complete games (40) and ranks second in strikeouts (310). He was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the third round of the 1985 draft and played seven seasons in the Major Leagues with three teams1. After retiring, he became a pitching coach at Delgado Community College, UNO, and in the minor leagues2. He is a member of the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame
