LSU Lady Tigers 2023 Championship

2023 - First Championship for the Lady Tigers

The 2023 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship will be an exciting and hard-fought battle between the Iowa Hawkeyes and LSU Tigers. Both teams have had successful seasons leading up to this point, so it should be a great game.

The Iowa Hawkeyes are led by head coach Lisa Bluder who has been at the helm for over twenty years, leading her team to many victories. The Hawkeyes are known for their defensive prowess as they rank in the top 10 nationally in scoring defense with just 56 points per game allowed on average. They also boast one of the best-rebounding margins in all of college basketball with +12 rebounds per contest, ranking them 4th overall among Division 1 schools this season. On offense, they rely heavily on senior guard Kathleen Doyle who leads them averaging 16 points and 5 assists per contest while shooting 44% from three-point range, making her one of the most efficient players right now!

Meanwhile, LSU is led by Head Coach Nikki Fargas, whose team has been consistently ranked high throughout her tenure there since 2012, when she took over full-time duties from Van Chancellor (who coached before). The Tigers boast a potent offense that averages 79 points a game which puts them 6th overall nationally amongst Division 1 programs; however, it’s their defense where they shine, allowing only 58 ppg – good enough for 3rd best amongst D1 schools! Their leader offensively is junior forward Ayana Mitchell, who averages 17ppg & 7rpg while shooting 41% from long distance, proving why she was named SEC Player Of The Year earlier this year!

With both teams boasting such impressive resumes heading into next month’s championship showdown, we can expect nothing less than an intense battle come tip-off day – May 8th at 9 PM EST/6 PM PST live on ESPN2, so make sure you tune in then to see if either squad will take home glory or if we’ll get another classic nail biter to finish like last year’s thrilling final between UConn & Notre Dame!
