In 2014, the Northern Illinois University men’s soccer team won the Mid-American Conference (MAC) championship. The team, led by head coach Eric Luzzi, finished the regular season with a 7-6-5 record, which was good enough for a fourth-place finish in the MAC standings.

The Huskies began their postseason run with a 3-1 victory over the Bowling Green State University Falcons in the MAC quarterfinals. They then advanced to the semifinals, where they defeated the University of Akron Zips by a score of 1-0.

In the championship game, the Huskies faced the Western Michigan University Broncos. The game was played on November 15, 2014, at the WMU Soccer Complex in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The Huskies got off to a fast start, with midfielder Isaac Kannah scoring in the 13th minute to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. The Broncos responded with a goal of their own in the 34th minute, but the Huskies regained the lead just before halftime, with midfielder Sean Totsch scoring in the 44th minute.

In the second half, the Huskies held on to their lead, thanks in part to the strong play of goalkeeper Andrew Glaeser, who made four saves in the game. The Huskies held on to win the game by a score of 2-1, securing the program’s third MAC championship and their first since 2011.

The win also earned the Huskies an automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament, where they lost in the first round to the University of Louisville Cardinals.
