1893 - Back-to-Back Glory for Sunderland

The 1892–93 season was Sunderland’s third season as a Football League club, and having won their first league title the previous year, the club went on to dominate the league again, claiming their second title by an 11-point margin. They became only the second team, after Preston North End, to win back-to-back championships, and remained unbeaten at home for the second consecutive season. Sunderland also became the first club to score 100 league goals in a single season (in just 30 games), failing to score in only one league match all campaign. Forward John Campbell topped the league’s scoring charts for a second straight year with 29 goals, cementing the club’s status as the era’s dominant force under manager Tom Watson.
