1902 - Fourth Title Under Alex Mackie

Sunderland won their fourth Division One title in the 1901–02 season, a gradual progression under manager Alex Mackie’s stewardship after the club had finished third and second in the preceding years before finally sealing the title. Sunderland clinched the championship with 44 points from 34 matches, finishing three points ahead of runners-up Everton, and secured the title with a 2–1 victory over Liverpool.
