ASUN School History
The ASUN Conference is a NCAA Division I college athletic conference that has existed since 1978. It was initially known as the Trans America Athletic Conference (TAAC). It comprised seven schools across the United States: Georgia State University, Florida International University, Jacksonville University, Mercer University, Stetson University, Troy State College, and Virginia Commonwealth. The TAAC expanded to include eight additional members in 1992 when it changed its name to the Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN).
Since then, ASUN has grown into one of the most competitive conferences in collegiate athletics, with some powerhouse programs, like the FGCU Eagles men’s basketball team, which has won numerous championships over recent years. This conference also boasts intense rivalries between teams, such as Liberty vs Lipscomb or North Florida vs Jacksonville, which is great entertainment for sports fans watching these games!
The history behind this fantastic league dates back even further than its formation in 1978, though; many schools that are now part of this prestigious organization played against each other before joining forces under one banner – something which adds an extra layer of intrigue when it comes time for those annual matchups! For example, Stetson had been playing against rivals such as Mercer since 1956 before both universities joined under what we know today as ‘the ASUN’ – making these fixtures even more exciting due to their long-standing rivalry dating back so far!
Overall, there is no doubt that any fan looking forward to an exciting season should keep an eye out on what happens within this incredible league throughout 2019/2020 - you never know how much drama could unfold during any game day involving two teams from within its ranks...
