Big South Conference History
The Big South Conference has built a notable legacy in NCAA athletics since its formation in 1983. Charter members included Augusta, Charleston Southern (then Baptist College), Campbell, Coastal Carolina, Radford, Winthrop, and Armstrong State. The conference’s first competitive season began in fall 1984, and by 1986 it gained full Division I status.
