History of Columbus SC
Columbus SC is a professional soccer team based in Columbus, Ohio. The club was founded in 1996 and has played in Major League Soccer (MLS) since its inception. Columbus SC has had a long history of success, winning multiple championships as an MLS franchise.
The first major championship that the club won was the Supporters' Shield title back in 2004, which they followed up with another Supporters' Shield title two years later. This marked the beginning of a period of sustained success for Columbus SC as they went on to win three consecutive MLS Cups between 2008 and 2010, cementing their place among some of America’s most successful teams ever.
In recent times, however, things haven't gone quite well for Columbus SC; after reaching four straight playoff appearances from 2011-2015, they failed to qualify for postseason play last year despite having one of their strongest squads assembled at that point. Nevertheless, there are still plenty of reasons why sports fans should keep an eye out on this team; with some exciting new signings already being made during this offseason, it looks like we could see them back competing at the top level again before too long!

Nickname
Columbus SC – When Columbus SC joined Major League Soccer in 2021, they brought a unique nickname—the Crew. But where did this name come from? The answer to that question lies in the history of the city itself.
Columbus, Ohio, has long been known as “The Arch City” due to its many bridges and arches. This connection between arches and Columbus was further solidified when an architectural firm designed a logo for one of their buildings featuring an arch topped by two stars representing Ohio's statehood date (1803). This logo would become synonymous with architecture and The Arch City, eventually inspiring local sports teams like baseball's Columbus Clippers (who adopted it as their official logo) and soccer's Columbus SC.
For decades now, those who live in or have ties to The Arch City have referred to themselves affectionately as “The Crew” – something that made perfect sense when considering how much work went into building such a vibrant community over time! It is no wonder why MLS chose this name for its newest team; it embodies what makes up any great team and celebrates the spirit of hard work found within every corner of America’s Heartland: collaboration! Together we are more vital than ever – just like our beloved Crew!
