Arthur L. Trester was an influential administrator who played a major role in organizing and promoting high school basketball in Indiana. He served as commissioner of the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) from 1929 until 1944, overseeing a period when Indiana basketball became one of the most celebrated high school sports traditions in the United States.
Under his leadership, the annual Indiana state basketball tournament grew into a major sporting event, attracting large crowds and national attention. He also helped establish Indiana’s reputation for producing outstanding basketball players and coaches.
His influence extended beyond Indiana through his work with national high school athletics organizations. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1961 as a Contributor.
