Mariano Rivera spent all 19 of his Major League seasons with the New York Yankees and became one of baseball’s most accomplished relief pitchers. His devastating cutter and exceptional command made him a dominant closer throughout the Yankees’ championship era. Rivera made 13 All-Star Games, won five World Series titles and received World Series MVP honors in 1999 and ALCS MVP honors in 2003.
He led the American League in saves three times and recorded 40 or more saves in nine seasons. Rivera finished his career with 652 saves, 952 games finished, 1,115 appearances, 1,283⅔ innings and a 2.21 ERA. His postseason performance was equally remarkable, producing an 8–1 record, 42 saves and a 0.70 ERA in 141 innings. Rivera became the first player unanimously elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and was inducted in 2019.
