MAAC School History
The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) is a collegiate athletic conference founded in 1980. The conference consists of 11 member schools located in the Northeastern United States. The MAAC has a rich history of successful sports teams, with many of its member schools having a strong tradition of excellence in various sports.
One of the most successful sports teams in the MAAC is the men's basketball team at Iona College. The Gaels have won the MAAC championship 10 times, including a stretch of six consecutive titles from 2011 to 2016. They have also made nine appearances in the NCAA tournament, with their most recent appearance in 2019. The women's basketball team at Marist College is another powerhouse in the MAAC, winning 11 conference championships and making 10 NCAA tournament appearances. Their most successful run was from 2007 to 2014, winning eight consecutive MAAC titles. The MAAC is also known for its strong baseball teams, with schools like Canisius College and Fairfield University producing successful teams that have made multiple NCAA tournament appearances.
In addition to basketball and baseball, the MAAC has also seen success in other sports such as soccer, lacrosse, and swimming. The Siena College men's soccer team has won 12 MAAC championships and has made six appearances in the NCAA tournament. The Marist College women's lacrosse team has won 10 MAAC championships and has made five NCAA tournament appearances. The MAAC also has a strong swimming and diving program, with schools like Rider University and Fairfield University producing numerous conference champions and NCAA qualifiers. Overall, the MAAC has a long and impressive history of successful sports teams, making it one of the most competitive and respected conferences in collegiate athletics.
