History of the Warriors
The Merrimack Warriors are the athletic teams of Merrimack College, a private Catholic college located in North Andover, Massachusetts. The Warriors have a long and storied history, dating back to the early 1950s when the college opened its doors.
In the early years, the Warriors competed in various sports at the club level. However 1965, Merrimack College joined the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and began competing at the varsity level. This move began the Warriors' journey to becoming a respected and successful athletic program.
One of the most notable moments in Merrimack Warriors' history came in 1984 when the men's hockey team won the NAIA National Championship. This was a significant achievement for the college, as Merrimack's first national championship in any sport. The team's success continued in the following years, with the Warriors winning the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Championship in 1988 and 1990.
In 1999, Merrimack College jumped to NCAA Division II and became a member of the Northeast-10 Conference. This move brought about a new era of success for the Warriors, with many of their teams achieving national recognition and winning multiple conference championships.
However, it was in 2019 that the Merrimack Warriors made their most significant move yet.
