History of the Eagles
Coppin State Eagles sports team has a rich history that dates back to 1900 when the school was first established as Colored High School. In 1926, it was renamed Coppin Normal School and became a four-year teachers' college. In 1950, it officially became known as Coppin State College, and in 1970, it was designated as a university. The Eagles have been known for their strong athletic programs, particularly in basketball, track and field, and volleyball.
The Eagles' basketball team has a long-standing tradition of excellence, with the men's team winning the MEAC tournament four times and making six NCAA tournament appearances. The women's team has also had its share of success, winning the MEAC tournament five times and making four NCAA tournament appearances. The track and field team has also made a name for itself, producing numerous conference champions and All-Americans. The women's volleyball team has also had a successful history, winning multiple conference championships and making several NCAA tournament appearances.
