Loyola Maryland Greyhounds Origin
In 1921, when Loyola College was formed in Baltimore, Maryland, they needed to come up with an official mascot for their teams. After brainstorming several ideas, one student suggested “Greyhound” as it represented speed and agility—two qualities necessary to win on the court or field! They were known as “The Greyhounds,” which eventually morphed into its current form: "Loyola Maryland Greyhounds."
Today this beloved mascot continues to represent strength and resilience throughout all collegiate sports competitions across America. Whether you are cheering them on at home games or following them online during away games, you can rest assured knowing that your favorite team's name is rooted in history dating back almost 100 years ago!
