Metro Conference History

The MAAC Conference (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) was founded in 1980 and represents 11 MAAC Conference schools across the Northeastern United States. Known for its competitive spirit and academic excellence, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has built a strong legacy through its talented athletes and championship-winning programs across various sports.

Among the most successful MAAC Conference teams, the Iona College men’s basketball program stands out. The Gaels have captured 10 MAAC titles, including a remarkable run of six consecutive championships from 2011 to 2016. They have also appeared nine times in the NCAA Tournament, most recently in 2019. The Marist College women’s basketball team is another dominant force, winning 11 conference titles and qualifying for 10 NCAA tournaments between 2004 and 2014, showcasing the excellence of MAAC Conference teams.

The MAAC Conference schools also excel in baseball, with programs like Canisius College and Fairfield University leading the charge. Both schools have produced outstanding athletes and earned multiple NCAA tournament appearances, strengthening the MAAC reputation in collegiate baseball.
