SEC School History
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) is one of the most storied and successful conferences in college sports. Its rich history has produced some of the greatest teams and players to grace a collegiate field or court.
In 1932, 13 universities from across the southeastern United States formed what would become known as the SEC. The original members were Alabama, Auburn University, Florida State University Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisiana State University Mississippi, Mississippi A&M College (now Ole Miss), Sewanee: The University of South Tennessee Vanderbilt, and Tulane. These schools had all competed against each other in various athletic competitions before forming this conference, which was intended to provide structure for intercollegiate athletics within their region.
Over time, more schools have joined, including Arkansas, which became part of the conference in 1991, followed by Missouri & Texas A&M, who joined up with SEC recently, making them 14 member institutions today! Each school brings something unique when competing within this powerhouse league, but they all share the goal of winning championships!
Throughout its history, numerous teams have won titles. At the same time, many individual athletes have gone on to achieve greatness at the professional level, too - names like Herschel Walker, Bo Jackson, Peyton Manning, Tim Tebow, and Cam Newton are just a few examples of stars that rose through the ranks playing under the banner “SEC”! Today, there is no doubt that these universities will continue to be fierce competition as they battle every season to try to prove themselves as the best team. So, if you’re a fan looking to get your full excitement, look no further than the action-packed world of SEC football, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer, track & field, etc…
