2026 - A New Voice on Lake Erie

The Cleveland Sirens became a WNBA expansion franchise in 2025, officially awarded the league’s 16th team on June 30, 2025, with play set to begin in 2028. Owned by Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, the Sirens will call Rocket Arena home. Cleveland once hosted the Rockers (1997–2003), who folded when local ownership couldn’t be secured; the Rockers trademark had since lapsed. After talks to relocate the Connecticut Sun collapsed over price, Cleveland pursued expansion instead. On August 4, 2026, the WNBA unveiled the Sirens name, evoking mythical sirens and Lake Erie, marking the city’s second WNBA franchise.
