2008 - Central Arkansas Bears men’s basketball team wins the Gulf South Conference championship

In 2008, the Central Arkansas Bears men’s basketball team won the Gulf South Conference championship. The team finished the regular season with a 13-5 conference record, which earned them a share of the conference title.

In the conference tournament, held from March 5-9, 2008, the Bears won three straight games to claim the championship. In the championship game, they defeated the Valdosta State Blazers 69-62 to secure the title.

The Gulf South Conference championship was the first in program history for the Central Arkansas Bears men’s basketball team. The team was led by head coach Rand Chappell, who was named the Gulf South Conference Coach of the Year for his efforts in guiding the team to their championship season.
