History of the Leicester City FC
Leicester City FC is a professional football club based in Leicester, England. The team was founded in 1884 and has since become one of the most successful teams in English football history. They have won seven league titles, four FA Cup trophies, and two League Cups throughout their illustrious history. In the 2015/16 season, they made an incredible run to win the Premier League title against all odds, with 5000-1 pre-season odds on winning it all!
The 2015/16 season will forever be remembered as one of the greatest underdog stories ever told in sports history. After narrowly avoiding relegation during the 2014/15 campaign, manager Claudio Ranieri took over for Nigel Pearson. He assembled a squad that would go on to shock the world by completing an unlikely championship victory at the top-flight level despite being pegged as heavy underdogs going into the start of the new season. Led by Jamie Vardy's 24 goals along with Riyad Mahrez's 17 assists, Leicester City’s defense held firm, allowing only 36 goals which was a second-best record among 20 teams competing for a title that year - this combination propelled them past competition en route to first ever Premier League Championship trophy!
In addition to their success domestically, Leicester City has also made European appearances three times now, having qualified twice via league position (2016 & 2019) while making a Champions League quarterfinals appearance during the 2016–17 tournament, where they were ultimately eliminated by Atletico Madrid after losing 2–1 aggregate scoreline across both legs played out between two sides respectively. This feat alone cements place amongst elite clubs Europe-wide who are currently vying for continental glory each passing year - something many never thought possible given size relative to other powerhouse programs within the region like Manchester United or Chelsea Football Club, name a few examples here today!
