George Hepbron Hall of Fame NBA

George T. Hepbron was one of basketball's earliest referees and an important pioneer in developing the game's rules. A close friend of basketball inventor James Naismith, Hepbron became deeply involved in organizing and interpreting basketball rules during the sport's formative years. He served as the first secretary of the AAU Basketball Committee in 1896 and later became secretary of the National Basketball Rules Committee in 1915.

Hepbron also edited the AAU Basketball Guide from 1901 to 1914 and served as secretary of the Olympic Basketball Committee in 1903. In 1904, he wrote How to Play Basketball, recognized by the Hall of Fame as basketball's first book. He also conducted the first national basketball rules seminar, helping standardize the game as it spread across the country. Hepbron's work as a referee, rules expert, author, and administrator earned him induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1960.
