Marquette led by as many as 28 points in the second half and never trailed in the game. Tyler Kolek scored 20 points and eight rebounds and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. Marquette won its first Big East Tournament title and its first conference tournament title since 1997 when it was a member of Conference USA. Marquette improved to 28-6 overall and extended its winning streak to nine games. Xavier fell to 25-9 overall and had its five-game winning streak snapped. Marquette’s defense held Xavier to 32.7% shooting from the field and 18.8% from three-point range. Marquette earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament as the Big East champion.
