Nickname
Renegades – If you're a sports fan, you know about the XFL and its many teams. One of these is the Arlington Renegades, which have existed since 2001. But do you know where their name comes from? Let’s take a look at the origins of this unique nickname!
“Renegades” represents Arlington's independent spirit and rebellious attitude towards traditional football rules. The team wanted to stand out as something different than other professional football leagues, so they chose this edgy moniker that evokes images of freedom-loving rebels challenging authority and convention.
In addition to being an homage to Arlington's free-spirited nature, “Renegades” also has ties with local history: it was once used by Confederate soldiers during America's Civil War about those who had deserted their posts or switched sides in battle (hence why some people refer them as "turncoats"). This further reinforces how fitting this nickname is for a revolutionary team like the one found in Texas' capital city!
Moreover, there are multiple interpretations behind what being part of an outlaw gang might mean for fans—from defying regulations on game day (like wearing outrageous costumes) to embracing rule-breaking players on your roster—which makes supporting your favorite XFL squad even more exciting! So if ever asked why your favorite team calls itself "the Renegades," now you can proudly explain how it reflects both modern times and past eras alike – proving that no matter what era we live in, renegade spirits will always find ways to express themselves through sport!

History of the Renegades
The Arlington Renegades are a professional American football team based in Arlington, Texas. The team was one of the original eight teams that made up the XFL, an alternative to the NFL founded by Vince McMahon and NBC Sports in 2001. Although unsuccessful on or off the field during their brief existence, they remain part of sports history as one of only two original XFL franchises still operating today.
The Renegades began to play with a bang: quarterback Tommy Maddox led them to victory over Las Vegas Outlaws 38-6 on opening day at Sam Boyd Stadium before 25,000 fans who braved freezing temperatures and snow showers for this historic game. However, it was downhill from there; after winning just two more games out of nine total contests (including playoffs) throughout their inaugural season, head coach John Gregory resigned following an embarrassing loss against Memphis Maniax 44-17 during the Week 10 finale at home stadium DFW Metroplex Stadium - now known as Globe Life Park - where attendance had dwindled to fewer than 8500 people due its dismal performance record thus far.
Although short-lived—the league folded after only one season—the legacy left behind by these brave players will never be forgotten among those who witnessed what could have been if given another chance for success. Despite being unable to compete with other major leagues like the NFL or CFL due lack of financial resources available (NBC pulled funding shortly after that), many former players went on become stars elsewhere, such as current Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger, who played his first professional snaps under center while wearing jersey number 12 for The 'Gades back then!
