Nickname
Atlanta United FC – As one of the most successful and popular teams in Major League Soccer, Atlanta United FC has a unique nickname that many fans are curious about. The team's official nickname is “The Five Stripes,” which comes from the five stripes on their logo and home jersey.
When Atlanta United was first created in 2014, they had to develop an identity for themselves as a club. They wanted something to represent their city and soccer culture and be memorable to fans everywhere. After much consideration by ownership and staff members alike, it was decided that the team should take its inspiration from Georgia’s state flag—specifically its five red-and-white stripes design—for its logo mark. This idea evolved into what we now know today: The Five Stripes!
The colors chosen for this emblem were taken directly from Georgia's state flag; red symbolizes hardiness & valor, while white stands for purity & innocence - two values seen throughout Atlanta United FC games each season! These colors also pay homage to other sports teams based out of Georgia, such as MLB’s Braves or NFL Falcons, who have similar color schemes associated with them, making this connection even more meaningful!
Atlanta United FC has become one of MLS' most powerful success stories since joining in 2017, thanks primarily due to their passionate fanbase who proudly wear “the 5 stripes" across various merchandise items like jerseys or hats during matches at Mercedes Benz Stadium every week - proving just how powerful a simple yet effective brand identity can make all difference when it comes down creating lasting impressions amongst supporters around the world!

History of the United FC
Atlanta United FC is a professional soccer team based in Atlanta, Georgia. Founded in 2014, the club competes in Major League Soccer and has quickly become one of the most successful teams in the league. Since joining MLS as an expansion side, Atlanta United has won two U.S Open Cups and three Supporters’ Shields while becoming one of only four clubs to win both trophies within their first five years of existence – along with LA Galaxy (1996-2002), D.C United (1995-2000) and Seattle Sounders FC (2009-2014).
In 2018, Atlanta made history by becoming just the fourth expansion side ever to qualify for MLS Cup Playoffs during its inaugural season - alongside Chicago Fire 1998; Real Salt Lake 2005; Portland Timbers 2011 - ultimately advancing all way to finals, where they lost 2–0 against Portland Timbers at Mercedes Benz Stadium on December 8th, 2018. Following this success, 2019 saw them reach even higher heights when they became champions for the first time after defeating Minnesota 3–1 during the final match on November 10th, 2019. This marked their second consecutive appearance and victory at the prestigious tournament, which was watched by 73000 fans worldwide – making it the most extensive attendance record for any game since 2017.
Finally, 2020 brought yet another significant milestone when the team qualified for Premier League after winning the Eastern Conference title that same year, thus cementing themselves as one best team in the American soccer leagues seen in recent times. With such a strong track record behind them, there is no doubt that the future holds much more success stories for this rising star franchise!
