Nickname
Vipers – The Vegas Vipers of the XFL have been turning heads since their inception in 2020. Not only is this team a force to be reckoned with on the field, but they also boast one of the most unique nicknames in all professional sports.
So where did this nickname come from? Well, it turns out that there’s an interesting story behind it! The name “Vipers” was chosen by Las Vegas locals and fans as a tribute to Nevada's state reptile - the Mojave Green Rattlesnake. This species is known for its speed and agility, which makes them perfect symbols for what football teams strive to represent: strength and quickness on both sides of the ball!
In addition to honoring Nevada's proud heritage through their moniker, another reason "Vipers" was selected has more practical implications; viper venom can quickly immobilize prey - much like how defensive players try (and sometimes succeed) at stopping offensive drives during games. It's no wonder many people associate these snakes with power when thinking about football teams!
Finally, some may find it fitting that such an iconic creature would have its name associated with something as big-time as professional sports franchises like those found within XFL leagues across America – especially considering how famous rattlesnakes are among Western culture today. With their fierce reputation yet still being considered beautiful creatures by many nature enthusiasts alike – having “Viper” grace jerseys representing Las Vegas seems right at home here in Sin City itself!

Vipers home stadium for the 2023 season
At the time of the original announcement, Las Vegas was the only city in which the XFL had not secured a stadium agreement. By the league’s own admission, the process of securing a stadium was “long and tedious,” as the Vipers had to negotiate around the other teams using Las Vegas’s venues (with Allegiant Stadium, Cashman Field, and Bishop Gorman ...
