Nickname
Wildcats – The Los Angeles Wildcats of the XFL have a storied history and an exciting nickname that has been around for more than a century. The team was founded in 1901 as the Los Angeles Wildcats, then known as the Pacific Coast Professional Football League (PCPFL). The name “Wildcats” is thought to come from their fierce rivalry with another PCPFL team, the San Francisco 49ers.
When choosing a mascot for this new professional football league, they chose one representing their competitive spirit: wild cats! It was also fitting since California is home to several species of wild cats, such as mountain lions and bobcats. This choice represented their competitive nature and paid tribute to these majestic animals living in our state's forests and mountains.
Today, when you think about LA Wildcats football, you immediately envision strength and toughness on both sides of the ball - traits embodied by wild cats themselves! From its inception until now, this powerful nickname has remained synonymous with success throughout many years of competing at all levels of competition, including youth leagues up through college football programs across America today – something we can all be proud of here in Southern California!

History of the Wildcats
The Las Vegas Outlaws were a professional football team that played in the XFL, an alternative to the NFL. The team was based in Las Vegas and competed for one season in 2001. Despite having some of the most recognizable players on their roster, such as former Heisman Trophy winner Ricky Williams and future Hall of Famer Mike Furrey, they failed to make an impact on fans and opponents alike.
The Outlaws had high expectations coming into their inaugural season due to their star-studded lineup but ultimately fell short when it came time for them to perform on game day. They finished with a record of 5-5, which placed them third out of eight teams in the Western Division standings; however, this wasn't good enough as only two teams from each division made it into playoffs at season end, thus eliminating any chance they had at making history with a championship run.
Despite not achieving much success while playing together, members from this squad have gone on to have successful careers both inside and outside football after leaving Las Vegas, including current head coach Steve Spurrier who led South Carolina Gamecocks' program until 2015 before retiring once again following his stint with Washington Redskins organization earlier this year (2020). All these facts combined make up an exciting story about what could've been if things went differently back then - something sports fanatics can look back upon fondly even now all these years later!
