Nickname

The term "Boston Terrier" was first used by students at Boston University during the late 19th century when they began referring to themselves as “Terriers” due to their school's official mascot being a bulldog. As time passed, this nickname became associated with all of BU's athletic teams—including its collegiate football program, which eventually joined the NCAA in 1932.
From then on out, any college-level sport involving BU was referred to by fans (and opponents alike) using the same moniker: “Boston Terriers." This name has been proudly adopted by those who attend or have attended Boston University and anyone else who cheers for them from afar! History of the Terrier
The team began playing football in 1884 and has played continuously since then, making them one of the oldest collegiate athletic programs still operating today. In addition to their long history on the gridiron, they boast successful basketball and hockey teams that have made multiple appearances in both NCAA tournaments and professional leagues like NHL and NBA, respectively.
In terms of success on the field or court, no other school can match what Boston University has accomplished throughout its tenure at college-level sports events; from winning two National Championships (the last coming back in 2009), five Conference titles (most recently 2017) to having more than twenty players drafted into various professional leagues including NFL & MLB – it’s safe to say they’re a force to be reckoned with! They've also produced some notable alumni, such as Hall-of-Famers John Hannah & Mike Haynes, who became all-time greats after graduating from BU's program - so if you're looking for inspiration, there's plenty here too!
