Nickname
Texans - The Tarleton State Texans are a college sports team that competes in the NCAA Division I. The school is in Stephenville, Texas, and has been around since 1899. While the university's mascot has changed over its long history, it was officially named "Texans" in 1923 when it joined the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association (TIAA). Since then, their nickname has become synonymous with pride and excellence on campus and throughout Texas.
So where did this iconic nickname come from? According to local legend, it all started with an old cowboy who visited Stephenville in 1898. He had just returned from a cattle drive on one of his horses wearing full Texan attire - including boots made of calfskin leather! When students saw him riding through town, they were so impressed by his rugged good looks that they decided to name their new athletic teams after him: The Tarleton State Texans!
Since then, other universities across America have adopted similar nicknames, but none quite match what we have here at Tarleton State University – genuine Texan pride! Whether you're cheering for football or basketball games or any other sport offered at our school, you can be sure there will always be plenty of spirits whenever “Texans” are mentioned – something that makes us all proud to call ourselves part of this great institution.

History of the Texans
In their time as a member of the NCAA, they’ve earned numerous accolades, including two conference championships (2017 & 2019). They’ve also had several individual players honored with All-American honors over their long tenure, with some even playing professionally for teams like Major League Soccer or National Football League franchises.
Off-the-field, Tarleton State has become known for its commitment to academic excellence by providing students with an array of educational opportunities that range from traditional classroom instruction all way up through online courses and degree programs offered via distance learning technology platforms such as Blackboard Collaborate Ultra or Zoom Video Conferencing Solutions. This dedication has resulted in them consistently ranking among the top universities across Texas regarding student success rates, which we can all be proud of!
On top of that, they are also well respected within athletic circles due to having one of the most successful football programs around – especially considering how young they still relatively are compared to other schools who boast much longer histories than theirs do! In recent years this team has seen great success under head coach Todd Whitten who led them into WAC back in 2017 after spending the previous decade playing Lone Star Conference, where he won six consecutive titles between 2009 & 2014 – making him one of the most decorated coaches of college football today!
With so much accomplished both on and off-field already, there is no doubt plenty more successes will come for future generations of Texan athletes and fans alike - so here's hoping best times yet ahead for us all!
