Nickname
Trojans - The Little Rock Trojans are among the most storied NCAA teams in college sports. With a long and successful history, it's no wonder that their nickname has become iconic. But where did the name “Trojan” come from?
It all started in 1912 when The University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) was founded as an extension campus for what is now known as the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. UALR had two nicknames in its early days: "the Teachers" and "the Pioneers." However, neither seemed to gain traction with students or fans, so they decided to look elsewhere for a more fitting name.
After much deliberation, they settled on “Trojans” for their association with strength and courage - traits that embody UALR's spirit even today! This new moniker quickly caught on among students who began referring to themselves proudly as “Little Rock Trojans." As time passed, this nickname became synonymous with success on and off the field, which helped solidify it into college sports lore forever!
Today you can find countless references to this proud team across various mediums, including apparel stores near campus or online retailers such as Amazon or eBay selling official merchandise featuring their logo – ensuring everyone knows who these brave athletes represent! While some may not be familiar with why exactly Little Rocks' mascot is called a Trojan horse – those who do know understand how special this symbol truly is, representing courage & resilience throughout generations of collegiate athletics excellence here in Central Arkansas since 1912.

History of the Trojans
When it comes to basketball success for Little Rock Trojans fans, there are few better eras than when they were part of what is now known as Division I-AA (now FCS). During this period (1955-1980), they won five conference championships and reached two national championship games during that span – both losses, unfortunately, coming against Jacksonville State University by just three points each time! The 1980s saw more success come out from Arkansas with seven consecutive winning seasons under head coach Paul Hogue. He also led them through tough times during his tenure, such as sanctions due to recruiting violations, resulting in four years without postseason play or television appearances.
Little Rock has also enjoyed considerable baseball successes over its history too; making six trips to the College World Series between 1973 & 1989, including winning back–to–back titles in 1979 & 1980! They've consistently produced quality players like pitcher Jeff King who was drafted first overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1986 MLB Draft after being named National Player Of The Year 1985 season while playing at LRU – he went on become 4x All-Star Major League Baseball player to before retiring in 2000 season after 14 years professional career.
Aside from these highlights, though, many will remember 1990s-era football fondly when legendary head coach Joe Lee Dunn took charge program into uncharted waters leading the team all way up to Division 1AA playoffs in 1998, the only year they ever made it to a level postseason competition. Despite the eventual defeat in the quarterfinals game against Montana Grizzlies, reaching the point was still an impressive testament to the hard work and dedication displayed by every person involved successful run.
Overall, no matter what sport you follow or how long fans are, Little Rock Trojans have been cheering for school athletic programs, always providing exciting experiences for everyone involved! Whether watching current crop stars compete for the highest levels of collegiate competition or reminiscing about glory days gone past is sure to be something to enjoy for anyone associated with university pride alumni!
