Nickname
Bisons - In truth, the bison wasn’t introduced to Bucknell until 1923, when Dr. William Bartol suggested the animal as the University’s mascot. At the time, it was only mentioned because of Bucknell’s location in Buffalo Valley, but there is another reason that could contribute to the legitimacy of the bison as the face of the school. Historically, bison were found all over North America, and it turns out that the edge of their natural, native range was none other than central Pennsylvania.
